New York City’s Earned Sick Time Act goes went into effect yesterday, April 1, 2014. Employers with 5 or more employees must offer employees who work in NYC up to 5 days of paid leave per year. In addition, employees do not have to be permanently scheduled in NYC to earn sick time under the law.
Employees will earn 1 hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. For those hired after April 1st employees must work 120 days before being allowed to use any accrued sick time.
Time accrued but not used in the employer’s benefit calendar year must be allowed to be carried over
